Austria Skiing

Kaprun and Zell am See - The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier at Kaprun is only 30 minutes away, and a ski pass is available which covers all the ski areas in Salzburgerland and even some in nearby Tyrol. On a clear day there are stunning views from a special viewing gallery at 3029m. Non Skiers can also enjoy this visit as a non-ski ticket is available for the journey. In Zell am See it is usually possible to take a walk accross the lake durning late January and February, finishing the day with some luxury quality "apres ski"- cakes and prosseco in the piano bar at the famous Zell am See Grand Hotel.

Salzburg by Night - Salzburg City The famous cultural city of Salzburg was recently voted the third most beautiful city in Europe. Visit Mozart’s birthplace, Salzburg Cathedral or take the famous Sound of Music Tour. Many other interesting tours are available in and around Salzburg by bus, boat, bicycle or the famous horse-drawn cabs known as Faikers. With over 800 shops, Salzburg offers delightful shopping in the historic lanes and alleys of the old city. From November to Christmas Eve the city is alive with atmosphere from the various Christmas markets and carol concerts performing daily. A Salzburg card is recommended to gain best value out of a day to Salzburg and these are available from the tourist information offices.

Leogang Winterwonderland - Non skiers can enjoy a programme of alternative outdoor activities in winter. On Wednesday afternoon it is possible to try snowshoe walking through the scenic Leogang countryside with guided instruction. There is also a guided tour to the leogang Schnapps distillery, and the tourist office organise winter hiking around Leogang for small groups of 5 persons or more. In the evening sledging at the Asitz takes place twice weekly starting from the middle station. A horse sleigh ride to a mountain restaurant for an Austrian traditional feast of Roast pork can be arranged and is highly recommended. There are regular trains to Innsbruck, Salzburg and Kitzbuehl for shopping and sightseeing. Krimml Waterfalls - The waterfalls at Krimml are the largest in Europe, and the fifth largest in the world. An uphill 4 Km path leads directly to this breathtaking natural spectacle. From the lowest waterfall (10 minutes from the car park) to the highest fall is a walk of about 1.5 hours. Good shoes and shower proof clothing a walking stick are recommended. There is also an Aqua-Park where it is possible to learn all about the power of water in an exciting, instructive and entertaining way. In summer it is possible to combine a visit to Krimml Waterfalls with a steam train journey for part of the route from Zell am See to Mittersill. From here a bus continues your journey to the falls.In winter opening times are restricted and subject to weather conditions.You are advised to check first.
